Prologue
Long before any kingdom drew a border on the map, one road connected two worlds — a land of jade and quiet discipline in the East, and a land of iron and restless ambition in the West.
For generations the two civilizations knew of each other only through rumor traders carried between them. Silk that reached the West seemed woven from moonlight; stories of the West that reached the East arrived wrapped in just as much myth. Between them lay deserts, mountains, and small kingdoms too cautious to open a direct path of their own.
That changed when an envoy sent west by a Han-era emperor pressed on past every border his own people had ever mapped, and returned with something more valuable than any single trade good: a route. Once that route existed, it never really closed again — it only grew busier, year after year, caravan after caravan.
The travelers named it themselves.
No emperor christened this road. The people who lived on it — merchants chasing one more good season, adventurers chasing a horizon, and soldiers chasing whatever their orders paid them — gave it its name simply because it was the thing tying their lives together. Everyone who walked it added a little more to what it meant.
Centuries passed, and the road grew harder to hold.
Empires that had once guarded their stretch of the route weakened or fractured entirely. New powers rose in their place, new borders were drawn, and the alliances that had kept the peace for a generation didn't always survive to the next one.
Where no one is left to protect a road, someone always steps in to prey on it.
Bandits, deserters, and outlaws found the same road just as useful as any merchant did — only they used it to take, not to trade. Caravans that once travelled with nothing but a driver and a prayer began needing guards, and guards began needing to be very good at their jobs.
And that is exactly where you come in.
Jupiter Online begins on that same road, in exactly that kind of uncertain moment. You arrive with nothing decided yet — not your allegiance, not your trade, not your reputation. Trader, hunter, or thief: the road doesn't care which one you choose. It only cares what you do once you're on it.
