Equipment is organized into an ascending series of degrees, each requiring a certain character level and mastery level to use — early degrees give way to the higher-tier Sun, Moon, and Nova weapon lines found in end-game dungeons like the Forgotten World. Higher-degree items generally offer stronger base stats and more room for alchemy options.

Sets of matching equipment can also grant additional set bonuses when enough pieces are equipped together, on top of whatever alchemy options you've added individually — making full matching sets a common long-term gearing goal, alongside the Equipment Exchange System and Magic Pop as alternate ways to chase an upgrade.
